This study analyzes the contribution of Computed Tomography (CT) in the detection and characterization of ovarian tumors, particularly malignant ones, to enhance the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis and postoperative follow-up, thereby optimizing therapeutic planning. This paper presents a retrospective study conducted on a group of 63 patients with ovarian tumors who were operated on at the Department of Gynecology of the Central University Emergency Military Hospital "Dr. Carol Davila" in Bucharest. The patients were investigated preoperatively using Computed Tomography to characterize the ovarian tumors and assess the sensitivity and specificity of the imaging diagnosis. Computed Tomography utilizing new multidetector technologies (MDCT) provides superior characterization of adnexal masses, with a sensitivity of at least 90% and a specificity of 80%. This imaging modality is recommended for the preoperative staging of ovarian cancer.
This paper focuses on the role of diffusion-weighted MRI of ovarian tumors as a potential biomarker to detect and characterize malignancy, and to improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis and postoperative follow-up to optimize therapeutic management. This is an original retrospective study of 76 patients with ovarian masses who underwent surgery between May 2014 and March 2016 at the "Dr Carol Davila" Central Military University Gynaecology Department. Patients underwent preoperative, 6-month, and 12-month postoperative evaluation of ovarian tumors using diffusion-weighted MRI. Due to the accuracy of this method using specific sequences in tissue characterization, magnetic resonance imaging can be used in the diagnostic work-up of complex adnexal masses.
Demons-Meigs syndrome is a rare benign pathology that can be confused with other benign and malignant pathologies. The clinical picture is marked by an increase in abdominal volume, pelvic-abdominal pain, but it can also be associated with breathing difficulties due to excess ascites fluid and pleurisy. Imaging paraclinical examination easily reveals the three components: ascites, pleurisy, and ovarian mass. Surgical treatment helps to relieve symptoms in a relatively short time.
